Mary Ann Glendon,
J.D., Learned Hand Professor of Law, Harvard Law University. President
of the Pontifical Academy for Social Sciences and a member
of the President´s Council on Bioethics, Professor Glendon teaches and
writes on international human rights, comparative law, and constitutional law
issues. The National Law Journal named her one of the
"Fifty Most Influential Women Lawyers in America" in 1998.
Joseph Hagen, Ed.D., President Emeritus of Assumption College, Past President
of Roger Williams University, and Chairman of the Board of
John Cabot University. Dr. Hagen also served as Assistant to
the Chairman of the National Endowment for Humanities in the
1970s.
Francis Russell Hittinger, Ph.D., Warren Professor of Catholic
Studies at the University of Tulsa, where he is also
Research Professor of Law. The author of A Critique of
the New Natural Law Theory, Hittinger is on the editorial
board of First Things and the advisory board of the
Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture. In 2001, he
was elected to the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas in
Rome.
Nicholas Imparato, Ph.D., professor of marketing and management
at the McLaren School of Business, University of San Francisco.
He has been a research fellow at the Hoover Institution
since 1996, primarily studying the intersection of business strategy and
public policy. An accomplished author, he has written numerous books,
and his articles have appeared in professional journals. Recently he
was the editor of Capital for Our Time: The Economic,
Legal, and Management Challenges of Intellectual Capital and has been
interviewed extensively by the Financial Times (London), Nikkei Information Strategy
(Tokyo), and the Wall Street Journal. He has served in
senior corporate positions in the private and public sectors, and
continues to consult for companies in the United States, Europe,
and Asia. Recent engagements include work with Visa International, the
Saudi Monetary Authority, and investment operations in Bulgaria and Georgia. Kenneth Schmitz, Ph.D., Fellow of Trinity College and
Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, University of Toronto and Professor of
Philosophy, John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and
Family in Washington, D.C. Professor Schmitz is a past president
of the American Catholic Philosophical Association and, in 1991, was
elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences and
Arts.
Kevin Starr, Ph.D., Librarian Emeritus of the State
of California and university professor at the University of Southern
California. Dr. Starr is the author of numerous articles, as
well as a seven-volume book series on the history of
California. The most recent volume in this series, Coast of
Dreams: California on the Edge, 1990-2003, was published in 2004.
Kenneth Whitehead, Ph.D., former Assistant Secretary of Education for
Postsecondary Education, U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Whitehead is a
noted author and the translator of 20 books from French,
German, and Italian, and is currently working on his next
book.
Faculty
Fr. Blaise Berg, S.T.O.,
priest of the Diocese of Sacramento and chaplain at St.
Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, Chico. He completed licentiate and doctoral
studies at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on
Marriage and the Family, Lateran University, Rome. Steven
Cortright, M.A., professor of Philosophy and tutor, Integral Curriculum of
Liberal Arts, St. Mary’s College, Moraga, California. He was the
prior chair of the Department of Philosophy at St. Mary´s
and a former visiting professor of Ethics at the University
of San Francisco. Prof. Cortright was the founding director and
currently a senior fellow of the John F. Henning Institute
for Catholic Social Thought at St. Mary´s. He is also
co-founder and director of the St. Anthony of Padua Institute,
Berkeley, California. Stan Dundon, Ph.D., professor of Philosophy, California
State University Sacramento.
Alberto Ferreiro, Ph.D., professor of European
History, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, WA. Author of 7 books
and over 60 articles covering topics such as the history
of the Iberian Peninsula, the history of Christianity, and the
Middle Ages. Visiting professor/lecturer at the University of Salamanca, Spain.
Received a master’s degree in history from the University of
Texas, Arlington, and a doctorate in history from the University
of California, Santa Barbara. John S. Hamlon, M.A.,
Director of Student Services and Theology/Catechetics instructor, University of Sacramento.
Former Associate Director, St. Ignatius Institute, University of San Francisco.
Received Masters in Theology from USF and did doctoral work
in systematic theology at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. Experience
includes directing national/international conferences on marriage and family; directing diocesan
marriage prep programs; teaching theology of marriage at the university
level. Raymond F. Helgeson, M.A., Director of Academic
Programs and Instructor of Theology and Catechetics, University of Sacramento.
Has worked in the field of catechesis for over twenty
years at the parish, diocesan, and university levels. His experience
includes faith formation as well as the formation of catechists.
Received Masters in Theology and Pastoral Ministry from Franciscan University
of Steubenville. Currently engaged in doctoral studies at the Maryvale
Institute of Birmingham, England. Mary Herboth, M.A., Sacrament
and Vocation Catechist. Received B.A. in Theology from Franciscan University
of Steubenville. Graduate of the University of Sacramento with an
M.A. in Education with an emphasis in Catholic Faith Formation. Joseph Hollcraft, M.A., Teacher for the Diocese of
Sacramento in the areas of Sacred Scripture, catechesis, and evangelization.
Received undergraduate degree and M.A. in Theology and Christian Ministry
from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Kenneth Howell, Ph.D.,
Adjunct Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Director, John Henry
Cardinal Newman Institute of Catholic Thought, University of Illinois, Urbana,
IL.
Declan Murphy, Ph.D., M.B.A., Dean of the College
of Business Administration and Mary S. Carey Professor of Management.
Former Faculty Member at the Wharton School at the University
of Pennsylvania and Princeton University. Former Director of the Center
for Global Leadership for the Federal Executive Institute of the
U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
